SNOMED International is a not-for-profit organisation that owns and maintains SNOMED CT. SNOMED CT is the most comprehensive multilingual clinical terminology in the world. SNOMED International plays an essential role in improving the health of humankind, by determining standards for a codified language that represents groups of clinical terms. This enables healthcare information to be exchanged globally for the benefit of patients and other stakeholders.
SNOMED International has taken steps to include COVID-19 content in the release of the SNOMED CT International Edition to serve a public good. COVID-19 content has also been included in the Global Patient Set (GPS), which is a managed collection of existing SNOMED CT reference sets that can be used freely anywhere in the world and enables use of structured clinical data without barriers.
